For home gym applications, rolled exercise mat products have many advantages over tile products. First, because tiled products are thicker than rolled products (where the thickness is limited because the product must be rolled up), rolls are less expensive to produce and ship. Second, since rolled products offer larger individual pieces, installation is simpler than with tiled products. These pieces cover a greater area, so rolled flooring ends up with less seams over the same area. Also, sizable pieces allow for the option of temporary installation. Third, rolled flooring products are more appropriate for areas where light to moderate traffic and periodic use are expected (i.e. home gyms). For the home gym, 1/4" thick material often provides sufficient floor protection and lifespan, without the high costs associated with thicker (therefore heavier) products. Therefore, for home gym applications rolled exercise mats are usually more suitable than tiles.

Looking for The Best Flooring Option for Home Gyms.
The best flooring option for homes gyms is easily rubber flooring. Home gym workout floors see a lot more wear a tear than other areas. Home gym flooring has to be durable, tough, and able to withstand the abuse of weight and home gym exercise equipment. There is a reason why the standard flooring for areas as simple as basement or garage gyms, to the best home gyms, to the extremely sophisticated multistory 24 Hour Fitness facilities is rubber flooring.
Rubber flooring comes in both rolls and tiles and often customers prefer the rolled options to the tiled options. This is for a few reasons. First, rubber is very heavy which generally means that shipping costs can become cumbersome to the projects budget. Generally, rubber tiles are thicker than rolled rubber (it has to be thin enough to roll and maneuver around) and thus will cost more to ship. Second, rolled rubber comes in large sheets (i.e. rolls), which means you have less seams than tiled products and the installation process is very easy which is perfect for the “DIY” home gym workout enthusiast.
One of the most popular best home gym flooring options is Rubber-Cal’s Elephant Bark. This home gym exercise equipment flooring option is made from 100% domestic recycled rubber making this an extremely socially and ecologically responsible material. With different gauges available (i.e. both 1/4inch thick and 3/8inch thick) you can easily choose a material that is correct for your application, and right in your budget.
Aesthetical preference will always be a deciding factor for people purchasing material for their home gym workout area. Therefore, many people are drawn toward a rubber flooring material that is available in solid colors. Consider our Terra-Flex tiles if you are interested in a tile that is available in warm earth tones. This material is 1/4inch thick and an ultra premium tile. In fact, it was used in the Muscle Pit of the Mr. Olympia contest in 2009. If it is good enough for the best body builders in the world, it will be good for any home gym flooring. Another option for building the best home gym would be with the Eco-Sport Tiles. If very heavy free weights are a large part of your gym accessories these tiles are for you. At 1inch thick this recycled rubber home gym flooring is designed to absorb and reduce much of the impact and noise from dropping weights. Lastly, for the home gym workout enthusiast looking to protect the floor from their home gym exercise equipment who is working under a budget, consider Rubber-Cal’s Puzzle-Lock Tiles. Interlocking mechanisms run the perimeter of the tile and allow you to connect multiple tiles to one another thus removing the need for any permanent adhesives. Perfect for the home gym.
