The latent benefits of exercise cannot be overstated. It has become a truism of our modern society that exercise is an eminently critical part of each of our lives. Exercise –and the various manners in which we pursue it- has become studied that it is with certainty that the Center for Disease Control states that “Only a few lifestyle choices have as large an impact on your health as physical activity. People who are physically active for about 7 hours a week have a 40 percent lower risk of dying early than those who are active for less than 30 minutes a week.” Even simple routines such as walking or basic floor exercises (pushups, sit-ups, pistol squats, etc.) can have an untold effect on your quality of life. It is well documented that the benefits of exercise extend not just to our physical bodies, but, also, to our mental states. The more your exercise, the more your body releases dopamine into your brain (as the primary “pleasure” body chemical, dopamine is a happy feeling your body promotes in order to convince you to keep exercising).
Physically, the more you work out, the more calories your body extends in order to provide you with the energy needed to fuel this movement. This “burning” of calories on a consistent basis greatly reduces your odds of becoming obese, and thereby makes you less likely to suffer from the extremely harmful (to put it lightly) effects of Type 2 Diabetes. The benefits of exercise are so extensive that they even include promoting bone strength and lessening the chances of accidental fractures and sprains.
Benefits of Exercise
When it comes to exercise in all forms, however, it is critical that you perform only the ones you can do safely. Even floor exercises like yoga can quickly become dangerous should you not possess the knowledge or skill mandated by the demanding routines. A step anyone can take in preserving their body’s well-being while exercising is through the implementation of an exercise pad to cushion your body and provide security for your head, spine, and neck. An exercise pad is a truly underrated piece of equipment; one that greatly reduces your odds of harm when seeking to obtain the storied benefits of exercise. For example, imagine how many more pushups or sit-ups you could belt out when using an exercise pad, as opposed to simply performing your routine on whatever type of flooring happens to be available? It is obvious that these rubber mats provide the safety to maintain your health, and comfort to keep you exercising for as long as possible.
Keep in mind that exercise is not only intrinsically beneficial to your physical and mental wellbeing, but can be a medium through which you grow socially. One of the premier benefits of exercise is that it –depending on your activity of choice- can encourage fellowship and commonality within a group. Joining an adult ice hockey team or riding club can be excellent ways to socialize and interact with those in your community. Yoga and other clubs designed around floor exercises are examples of other venues where making friends and getting healthy go hand-in-hand.
Though the benefits of exercise seem like they should be obvious to everyone, many still suffer from under-exercising (or, even worse, not exercising at all). Again, according to the Center for Disease Control, “80 percent of American adults don't get recommended exercise.” It is clear that we as a society need to continue coming together to ensure that our collective health and well-beings are maintained. Do your part: exercise every day, get your friends and family involved, share with your coworkers a new routine, offer to lend your exercise pad to a neighbor in need of one – all of these can be constructive methods of reinforcing the importance of exercise. Don’t be selfish; let others know all about how critically important (and enjoyable!) the benefits of exercise really are.
