The treadmill mat is a quintessential component of any 21st century fitness environment. Treadmills have become a worldwide symbol of how technology has grown to benefit every aspect of our modern lives – including the field of fitness. However, that is not to say that they are perfect. Treadmills have several drawbacks. Fortunately, these drawbacks can be mitigated with the use of fitness equipment mats. Typically composed of rubber matting, treadmill mats are used by commercial and home gyms everywhere to counter the adverse effects of treadmills.
Similar to other types of heavy machinery, treadmills generate vibration due to the large amounts of energy they expend while being operated. This excess vibration leads to two main negative byproducts. One, too much vibration can cause an annoyingly persistent amount of noise. If you are someone who likes to use a treadmill every day, you will understand just how distracting a noise such as this can be. Thankfully, rubber mats excel at absorbing the energy created by the treadmills, thereby reducing the overall noise output as well.

The second main negative trait possessed by treadmills stems from not only the vibration they generate, but their sheer size, as well. This is another area where the treadmill mat shows how valuable it can be. If used without proper rubber matting, treadmills can slowly wear down the structural integrity of virtually any type of flooring. Neither wood nor carpet nor concrete is completely immune to the potentially damaging effects of treadmill vibration. If this capacity for damage seems overstated, take heed that it is anything but. With commercial flooring renovations potentially costing up to thousands of dollars, it is no surprise that business owners would want to protect their vulnerable floors from any and all threats. Fitness equipment mats have been made to directly confront this hazard, however. Since treadmill mats are purpose-built to absorb and redirect energy, they are excellent for mitigating a treadmill’s natural weight and vibration-producing abilities. A smart, and sensible way to deal with excess vibration, it is small wonder that the treadmill mat is revered by home and commercial gym owners everywhere.
As an aside, it is good to note that the majority of fitness equipment mats are made from recycled tire rubber. The benefit of this specific construction is that the recycled tire rubber confers a high degree of durability to the treadmill mat. That should give you an idea of just how tough these treadmill mats can be.
Treadmill mats are not solely designed as a product of function, however. They can also be a stylish addition to any gym’s aesthetic. While black rubber mats certainly are not going out of style anytime soon, it remains true that the aesthetic of fitness centers can vary from one to the next. Though most rubber mats come in sleek, black rubber (an attractive option in itself), many distributors also offer custom rubber mats so that every buyer can have whichever style and/or size of rubber mat they require. Be sure to shop around and inquire with different retailers to see which one holds the right type of treadmill mat for you.
