The U.S. Olympic Committee, from its headquarters in Colorado, is dedicated to enabling American athletes to fulfill their Olympic aspirations and coordinating Olympic-related athletic activity in the U.S.. The Committee works with athletes at the highest level of competitive sports in the United States to help them achieve a consistent level of excellence in their respective sports.
Athletes are encouraged to participate in various national and international events leading up to the Olympic games every four years. In preparation for the Winter Olympics in Torino next year, the Committee is sponsoring athletes in various winter sports competitions throughout the coming months, such as luge, snowboarding, curling, biathlon and speedskating.
The U.S. Olympic Committee is funded almost completely by voluntary contributions from private individuals and industry. The Committee does not receive a continuous subsidy from the government, as do the majority of National Olympic Committees. With these funds, the U.S. Olympic Committee offers athletes free room and board, training facilities, sports medicine care, sport science testing and analysis, local transportation and recreational facilities. In association with the National Governing Body of each sport, the U.S. Olympic Committee approves athletes to compete in the games. The Shark Tooth mats are extremely heavy duty rubber mats, which provide excellent floor and equipment protection in a variety of sporting settings.
